Currently several companies offer online publishing and print-on-demand publishing for reasonable fees. Some offer editing and proofreading services as well. The advantage to this approach is the company handles book design, printing, and distribution. There are no shipping or storage costs, since the books are printed as customers order them. Most have arrangements with online distributors such as Amazon.com.

If you are going to self-publish using one of these online publishing companies, keep in mind that quality control is ultimately your responsibility, and you still may want to consult with professionals regarding the design, copy- editing, proofreading, PR, marketing, and distribution.   The web page Tips for Self- Publishing includes a list of the costs of basic professional services involved in book production,
